Room Rates
Southmayd Home has four room tiers, priced by size:
- Tier 1: $1,900–$2,200/month (116–126 sq ft)
- Tier 2: $2,250–$2,800/month (128–165 sq ft)
- Tier 3: $3,200–$3,896/month (193–198 sq ft)
- Tier 4: $3,300–$4,800/month (193–198 sq ft, includes a private bathroom)
Every room, regardless of tier, is private. The difference between tiers is square footage and, at the top tier, an in-room private bathroom.
Short-term respite stays are also available at $95 a day, with a four-day minimum.

Southmayd Home is a nonprofit and operates independently of any parent company or outside investors. Rates are subsidized by the Southmayd Foundation, a fund built over more than a century of gifts and legacies from families connected to the Home. That subsidy covers roughly half the true cost of caring for each resident, which is what keeps rates starting at $1,900 a month rather than the $5,000 to $8,000 a month more typical of assisted living in Connecticut.
What's Not Included
Southmayd provides non-medical residential care. It is not a skilled nursing facility, and Southmayd does not accept Medicare or Medicaid. Residents pay privately, through personal funds, family support, or in some cases veterans' benefits or long-term care insurance. If a resident's needs progress beyond what non-medical residential care can provide, a move to a skilled nursing facility is handled through Connecticut's standard nursing home system.
