RESIDENT APPRECIATION DAY
On January 22, lime green was the color of Resident Appreciation Day at Southmayd Home. Bright green T-shirts with the slogan, “Life is Great, Our Residents Make it Better” were given to all staff members to wear throughout the special day.
After a deliciously prepared breakfast, many residents took advantage of a unique invitation to spend a laid-back morning at the Brass City Mall. This was a special treat since usually the weekly “Walking Club” trips to the mall are devoted to physical exercise, not relaxation. This time, some made purchases, some just window-shopped while others just sat and had a leisurely coffee break. There were a few die-hard residents who still made several trips around the quarter-mile loop from Sears to Macy’s and back.
In the afternoon, Fran Schinkel, Recreation Director and Joy Eusebio, R.N. welcomed residents to the 2nd floor “Spa and Relaxation” room where gentle music played in the background as they were pampered and treated with facials, manicures, back massages and/or foot massages.
A scrumptious snack of chocolate covered giant strawberries accompanied by flutes of organic sparkling apple cider put the final touch on the days’ activities.
