Friends And Family Night December 4
Southmayd Home's annual Friends and Family
Night was held on Tuesday, December 4. In preparation for
opening up and showcasing the Home to their family and friends,
our resident "elves" spent many hours decorating
the Home and trimming the annual Christmas tree with the
home crafted ornaments made by the residents.
As a new treat, the evening featured a Nativity program
broadly based on the "Hanging of the Greens",
traditionally done in churches during the Christmas season.
Under the direction of Recreation Director, Fran Schinkel
our residents recited Christmas Bible readings as they explained
and added the final touches to the living room decorations.
The audience discovered the origin of Christmas trees, the
background to such customs as to why we choose poinsettias
and learned more about other favorite holiday traditions.
Flautist and vocalist Donna Gollenberg, a trained musician
who also has a background in both occupational and recreation
therapy provided musical interludes during the Nativity
program and helped lead the audience in some traditional
caroling.
And as usual, everyone enjoyed the special holiday buffet
of favorite finger foods and dessert indulgences that our
Southmayd Home cooks spent much time preparing.
