Southmayd Home's
Garden Volunteer Day
Friends, family and community members are invited to a working “Garden Party” at Southmayd Home on Saturday, June 13 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. Volunteers are sorely needed to help with garden spring cleaning, planting, edging, and trimming chores.
“Any and all help and materials are greatly appreciated!” said Linda Hagen, Garden Committee Chairman and member of the Southmayd Home Board of Directors. “With over one acre of woodland gardens,” added Linda, “we need help to maintain our backyard, lawns and patio and make them more attractive and inviting both for the women who live here and the neighborhood.”
Already pitching in to help spruce things up are residents Dorothy (Dot) and Norma (see photo) who are often seen in the backyard picking up the twigs and branches that fall from the trees.
“I hope we have a lot of volunteers,” said Dot, “there are lots of weeds to pull out, but with time and effort, the gardens will look great!
Volunteers are asked to please bring your own gardening gloves and tools such as spades, rakes (leaf and garden), trimmers, clippers, edging and pruning tools, trowels, cultivators and hoes, tarps or portable waste containers.
“We will also gladly accept any plants, annuals or perennials that need a good home,” said Marda Gutierrez, Executive Director, “and refreshments and lunch will be provided to our helpers, so bring a friend and come join us!.
The scheduled rain date will be Sunday June 14.
