Fall 2010
Dear Friends of Southmayd Home,
Since 1898, Southmayd Home has filled an essential human services need for women and their families seeking a “family-like” alternative to living alone. Many residents and families have experienced firsthand the warm and caring atmosphere Southmayd Home provides. Despite its long and important role in our community few people are aware that Southmayd Home has always subsidized MORE THAN HALF THE ACTUAL COST OF SERVICES.
We are firmly committed to continuing this philanthropic tradition far into the future. However, WE NEED YOUR HELP!
In the past, thanks to generous bequests and gifts, our endowment was able to cover this subsidy so that we could offer affordable fees. More recently, such major donations have not been forthcoming and, in order to continue services at the current level, we must find a way to augment our endowment income or we risk its depletion.
We seek your assistance so we may continue to supplement our residents’ fees as well as furnish the life enhancing amenities which make such a difference in the women’s daily lives. Since the creation of the Southmayd Home Enhancing Life Project last year, friends and family of Southmayd Home have helped us and we are deeply appreciative of all your donations of funds, time, and talents. We would especially like to thank Miss Nancy Camp, Board of Directors Emeritus, for generously donating the funds to renovate and upgrade “Aunt Hilda’s Beauty Parlor:” named in honor of her aunt, Miss Hilda Camp who was a Southmayd Home Board member for 41 years!
Please consider working in partnership with us to sustain the future of Southmayd Home and to help enhance the lives of the women who call Southmayd their “home”.
Sincerely,
Barbara (Bonnie) Leavenworth,
President of the Board of Directors
