Planned Giving
A simple bequest is a popular and meaningful way to donate to Southmayd Home. You gain the satisfaction that comes from knowing that your support permits Southmayd Home to continue its important mission without jeopardizing your family’s security.  A bequest appeals to many people for a number of good, solid reasons:

  • It is revocable
  • No change in lifestyle results from making a bequest commitment
  • Heirs can be provided for first, then a gift for Southmayd Home
  • Estate taxes are reduced when assets are passed to charities
  • Future financial circumstances are not threatened

A bequest can set a specific dollar amount or item of value (termed a "specific bequest") to be given. The following wording is provided to assist you in working with your attorney, accountant and other advisers for a "specific bequest" to Southmayd Home.

"I give and bequeath the sum of _____ dollars, $______  to Southmayd Home, Inc., a Connecticut charitable corporation or its legal successors, for its general uses and purposes."

A bequest can also specify a percentage of your estate or another asset (called a “percentage bequest”). In this case, the following wording might be used.

"I give and bequeath ____% of my estate to Southmayd Home, Inc., a Connecticut charitable corporation or its legal successors, for its general uses and purposes."

When working with your attorney, accountant and other advisers, you will need to provide them with our legal name and address: Southmayd Home, Inc., 250 Columbia Boulevard, Waterbury, CT  06710 and Southmayd Home’s Employer Identification Number: 06-0646903.

If you have questions or need additional information about making a bequest to Southmayd Home, please contact Marda Gutierrez, Executive Director at mgutierrez@southmayd.com or call her at (203) 754-0360.
