Not-for-Profit facilities have long been recognized
as having a tradition of serving the needs of older persons.
One important aspect of the Not-for-Profit is that any surplus
income that is generated is turned back into the facility,
either to improve or expand the services they provide. The
not-for-profit approach to aging services places emphasis
on providing an atmosphere of fellowship and caring; on meeting
the social, physical, and spiritual needs of the individual;
and on helping seniors achieve the dignity and quality of
life that they deserve in their retirement years. The emphasis
on caring and on placing the need of the individual above
all else has become the hallmark of not-for-profit homes and
services for the aging.
Southmayd Home is a member of two organizations
which promote the not-for-profit difference in long-term
care. Connecticut Association of Not-for-Profit Providers
For the Aging (CANPFA) and the American Association of Homes
and Services for the Aging (AAHSA).
CANPFAs provider members include
not-for-profit residential care homes such as Southmayd
Home, nursing homes, subsidized senior housing, adult day
centers, elder care service providers, home health care
agencies, assisted living facilities and continuing care
retirement communities. Its members care for more than 15,000
seniors in their facilities in Connecticut with about 10,000
full and part-time employees working for member organizations.
AAHSA and its members are committed to
maintaining and expanding the Not-for-Profit Difference
in aging services through research, advocacy and education.
AAHSA's commitment is to create the future of aging services
through quality people can trust.
