Southmayd is a nonprofit organization
Nonprofit organizations have long been recognized as being the leading and most innovative providers of human services, including services for elderly people. Nonprofit organizations are mission based and governed by a volunteer board of directors. The emphasis of Southmayd's work is focused on caring and on placing the need of the individual above all else, and this focus is the hallmark of most nonprofit organizations. Any earnings or operational surpluses may be used only for the purpose of improving or investing in the mission.
Southmayd Home's mission is to provide to self-sufficient women over the age of 60, a residence that is safe and nurturing in a family-like atmosphere. At present most of the women who reside at Southmayd are in their 80'sand 90's. Since its inception Southmayd Home has placed emphasis on providing an atmosphere of fellowship and caring; on meeting the social, physical, and spiritual needs of the women who live here; and on helping older persons achieve the dignity and quality of life that they deserve in their retirement years.
Since its first annual meeting in December 1894, when twelve women were first elected to manage Southmayd Home, and throughout its long history, local community-based women have donated their time and expertise to serve on the Board of Directors. Their commitment to caring for the needs of its residents helps assure high quality service and care.
